Need help on Winhttp services in C++

Hi, I am trying to use Winhttp for making a SOAP request from a client to a
Server, windows 2003.
I have 2 issues:

1. I am making a Winhttp, HTTP request and I keep getting this error,
Authentication failed, http code 401.
I am passing the credentials as Base64 conversion. I do not know why I
am getting this error.

2. If SSL is enabled on my server, then there is a procedure to go through,
like, send HTTPS request, client needs to get the certificate installed on
the server and then do a hand shake base don the credentials and then send
the SOAP request and get the response back. How do we exactly do that? I read
some documentation on MSDN and I still do not have clear idea how to proceed
with this.
Appreciate any assistance on this.
