FTP client help

I am currently in the works in developing a ftp client using VB.NET.

There's a sample code from MSDN Library which I think works --
Only if you set the remote host to "localhost." But when I tried to
access my ftp server with the username and password, an error prompt
occured that says:

"The requested name is valid and was found in the database, but it does not
have the correct associated data being resolved for."

I looked up for this specific error and this is what it turned out to be:

"The usual example for this is a host name-to-address translation attempt
(using gethostbyname or WSAAsyncGetHostByName) which uses the DNS (Domain
Name Server). An MX record is returned but no A record—indicating the host
itself exists, but is not directly reachable."

Quoting "...but is not directly reachable" hereby says that I don't have
direct access to my ftp server (and also other freely accessible ftp sites
like ftp.microsoft.com).

I have suspected these possible causes as to why I'm not able to gain access:

1) My proxy doesn't allow such direct access. Maybe the firewall resticts
such access.

2) Configuration problems.
