Web service calls...

Looking for some best-practice advice....

Let's say I have an W2k3 / IIS 6.0 box that is running a website with 2
vdirs (seperate applications) underneath it. Each of these vdirs is in it's
own application pool (so I have 2 w3 workers). What are the potential
problems / issues / benefits with making ASMX calls between the workers???
(For example, app A is the web service that I want to call from app B).

I've seen / heard many say that if you are on the local machine, try to
rework the call as a straight up object, but I've never run into any mention
of the same situation with seperate worker processes (and threadpools for
that matter).

Thoughts!??!?!

Thanks in advance!!!!

Hello MichaelY,
If you're making webservice calls across appdomains/application pools the
cost of serialization is inevitable. The only difference if you dont use
webservice is that you dont incurr the cost of xml serialization. The benefits
are marginal to say the least. When you say '...the call as a straight up
object' Thats actually most efficient because then you just load the required
assemblies into its own app domain. This [0] should help you with those decisions
