The 1.1 Framework is still considered an update to a system that doesn't
have it. In general, applications written against the 1.x Framework will
work with the new 2.0 Framework, but many would argue that it is better to
use the actual version of the Framework that an application was written
against. The Frameworks are very light weight and play nicely with each
other. In the end, most machines will have a number of different Frameworks
installed on them.
Most of my machines have 1.1 and now 2.0. I have no intension of
uninstalling 1.1.
