Popup non-modal Search window?

I have a simple(ish) enquiry screen. on this I have a search button. I
want the search window to popup as a seperate non-modal window, allow the
user to search and display the results in a datagrid on the popup search
window. When the user double clicks a row in the datagrid I want it to
display the full details back in the screen that called the popup window. The
search window though needs to stay as it is so they can pick a diff one from
the results without re running the search.

So in short.... is it possible to launch a seperate window but maintain some
kind of parent child datalink between the 2 so i can set properties and call
methods from the child window in the parent window?
