Can't create new asp.net project

If I try to create a new asp.net application inside Visual Studio setting
the location to http://remote.server.com/appname then I get the error
message:

"The web server reported the following error when attempting to create or
open the web project located at the following URL:
'http://remote.server.com/appname'. 'The connection with the server was
reset'"

And nothing happens. The server is a w2k3 server with IIS6 and FPSE2002
running fine. Anyone know what's wrong?
