what percentage of machines have the framework installed?

I am going to be distributing a shareware application soon and would
like to know what percentage of MS OS machines have the framework
installed.

I have looked in multiple places (google, netcraft), etc and have not
found any numbers. Please advise.

You need to have your installer check for this. AFAIK,
there are no numbers and they would be meaningless if
anyone DID publish them.

I realize that my installer will need to detect this. I already have
that working.

I am just *curious* if anyone knows what percentage of MS machines have
the framework installed.

This is a very nice thing to know as the percentage helps developers
decide what language a program is going to be written in. Most
developers are not willing to write a program in dot net because the
runtime is so big. Not everybody wants to make users dowload a 26mb
runtime, so they are sticking with other languages until a high
percentage of machines already have the runtime installed. Make sense?
