Excel workbook - problem saving

I am attempting to open, change, save, and then redirect to the changed Excel
workbook in VB.NET on the intranet site.. It works fine in debug, but after
putting it on server I get a ‘Document not saved' error message when
attempting to save the workbook. The xls file I am opening is not read only,
I am setting the ReadOnly parameter of open method of the workbook to
False(even though it is that by default), and I gave ASPNET user Full Control
to the directory on the server where I am opening and attempting to save xls
file. I tried to open and change a text file in the same directory and it
worked. Any suggestions?
