Error 1704 .Net Framework Install Currently Suspended

Hi,

We are currently trying to install .Net Framework v.1.1 on a server which
already has v1.0.

We are receiving the following error.

Error 1704.An installation for Microsoft .NET Framework SDK (English) is
currently suspended. You must undo the changes made by that installation to
continue. Do you want to undo those changes?

The server is windows 2000 and has been running v1.0 websites happily for
some time.

Any ideas on how to recover from this?
Would we had to uninstall and reinstall v1.0? If so what would we need to do
to get our websites up an running again?

Thanks

Colin

Hi Colin,

Thank you for your post.

From your description, I understand that when you tried to install .NET
Framework 1.1 on a server which already has .NET Framework 1.0, you receive
the error message "Error 1704. An installation for Microsoft .NET Framework
SDK (English) is currently suspended. You must undo the changes made by
that installation to continue. Do you want to undo those changes?". If I
misunderstood, please feel free to let me know.

Based on my past experience, there are two major causes for this error
message.

1. Microsoft .NET Framework 1.0 or Framework SDK is corrupted.

2. Some third-party software especially Anti-Virus softwarre causes .NET
Framework SDK suspended(not work correctly) instead of .NET Framework 1.0
or SDK itself corrupted.

Based on the two points, I suggest that first, you try to disable
third-party software especially Norton Anti-Virus, etc. It would be better
if you could temporarily uninstall Anti-Virus software, as we have received
several reports that just disabling the latest Norton Anti-Virus software
even does not help. In some cases, we have to require our customers to
temporarily uninstall the Norton to fix the problem. Please rest assured
that you can reinstall Norton Anti-Virus after you install .NET Framework
1.1 successfully.

As well, please also perform a clean boot before you install .NET Framework
1.1 from your hard drive. You may refer to the following link to perform a
clean boot. Remember to close all unnecessary applications during the
installation.

How to Perform a Clean Boot in Windows XP
<http://support.microsoft.com/?id=310353>

Then, I would like to know whether you install .NET Framework 1.1 from
CDROM, hard drive or network directly. We highly recommend that you could
try to install our product from Hard Drive instead of install it from
network.

After you perform a clean boot to install .NET Framework 1.1, please
download the .NET Framework 1.1, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

Microsoft .NET Framework Version 1.1 Redistributable Package
<http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...25E3-F589-4842
-8157-034D1E7CF3A3&displaylang=en>

For more information about the installation of .NET Framework 1.1, please
refer to the following link.

How to troubleshoot Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 installation issues
<http://support.microsoft.com/?id=824643>

If you are still not able to install .NET Framework 1.1 from your hard
drive after performing a clean boot, it is very likely that .NET Framework
1.0 has been corrupted. Please follow my steps mentioned in the following
article to uninstall and reinstall .NET Framework 1.0 and then install
.NET Framework 1.1 to see whether this helps.

Should you have any concerns regarding the issue, please feel free to let
me know. I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks everyone.

Installing .Net Framework 1.0 Service pack 3 fixed it.
