Dataset memory size question.

When the dataset gets cached on the local computer, does this cache get
written to disk or does it stay in the ram?
If it stays in the ram, is there a maximum size
When the computer gets shut off, do they lose the local cache, or does it
remain availabe for the next time they connect?
We have a lot of files that are used as foreign keys to the primary file.
For example, the primary file might be automobile, and one of the attributes
might be manufacturer. This list would be used on the windows form as a drop
down selection box. All these files that are primarily used to populate the
drop down selection boxes, would ideally be stored on the local machine, and
only get refreshed if the data in the primary file changes.
Does anyone know a good way to make this data available in the drop down
boxes?
