bound-column width editable datagrid

when clicking on my update control the datagrid width is of the screen. I
have template columns that handle ddl in addition to bound controls. I need
to get each column width fixed to a certain width.
<asp:BoundColumn DataField="dtStart" ReadOnly="False" HeaderText="Start">
<ItemStyle HorizontalAlign="Center" Width="15"></ItemStyle>
</asp:BoundColumn>

This code does not work on edit.
I'm using VB for code behind.
