Extracting an image from an OLE embedded metafile

I'm trying to extract an image from an access/sql server database that
was inserted using OLE. I've got a few routines that extract jpeg and
bitmaps, but I'm struggling with gifs.

It appears that gifs are stored within a metafile which is then
embedded withing the OLE container. The OLE header suggests the
object is of type "Package".

Does anybody know how to extract the metafile from the container and
then re-assemble the image??

Thanks in advance
