Take a look at Safe FTP.
http://safetp.cs.berkeley.edu/

There's also Secure file transfer using SSH
My fav server is from www.ssh.com

You may also want to look at the following free tool
http://winscp.sourceforge.net/eng/

thanks Nick.

Does this mean I have to install SSH for instance at each remote location,
or can I just install it locally? I would like to copy the data to here as
opposed to them sending it here. Does the 'copying' person only need to
install SSH? Are there solutions where I don't have to install anything on
their remote computers?
