Detecting MDAC

I have a lot of users who don't have the MDAC installed. My Windows app
installs but has problems without it. Is there a way to put in the
distribution app something that will trigger loading the MDAC the same way
the it handles not having the .Net framework installed?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Are you using InstallShield? InstallShield has a merge module for this.

Regards,

Thanks for the info. All I can find on my system is 2.5. How do you get
something newer?

I believe the minimum version you need for .NET is MDAC 2.6 (which is old
already). You can the latest versioin here:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/data/downl...#MDACDownloads
under "MDAC Downloads"

Hope this helps,

Look for HKLM\Software\Microsoft\DataAccess, the FullVersion item. If your
setup is MSI based you can have a registry search that uses the value in a
launch condition.
