inheritance help

I need a good work around to a problem. I created a base business
entity class that includes all necessary default features. The actual
business data is exposed via a public property called "Data" that
returns a DataSet. The problem is that when a new business entity
inherits from the base class I would like the new class to also use
the "Data" property to expose the business data but it will actually
be a typed dataset. This of course creates a conflict. Is there a
better way to set this up? In each inheriting class I could do the
following:

Property shadows Data as ClientDS
set(value)
myTypedDS = value
mybase.Data = value
end set

But if a developer forgets to do this there would be problems if
somewhere someone tried to use the base entity as a parameter and then
a null reference was found. I'm also not really thrilled with the
idea of having to shadow the property to get my different return type.
I could also leave the property with the DataSet return type and
check for the correct typed dataset per each business entity but that
is misleading. Anyone have any suggestions on the matter?

Thanks,

AJL
