ASP.Net End-User Ad Hoc Query Tool

I am in the process of converting a classic COM-based, ASP Application to
DotNet. The old application has an embedded, hand-rolled ad-hoc query tool
that is kludgy at best. I would like to replace it with something that is
both user and developer friendly (if there is such a thing). This
application allows the user to create label overides for various controls
throughout the application (i.e. class properties). This tools needs to be
able to display those overrides at runtime as well as any User Defined
Fields that may have ben added to the class in question.

I have looked on the web for such a thing, but either find only ActiveX
controls and/or components embedded in a suite of BI tools that would be
overkill for the need at hand.

My question is: does anyone here have knowledge and/or experience with a
component or small suite of componenets from a quality vendor that will
allow end-users to create easy but powerful ad hoc queries against our
internal datasets?

Thanks in advance,
Dan
