I am trying to install VS.NET 2002 Academic on a new laptop that has the
..NET 1.1 framework installed. I insert disk 1 into my drive and it spins for
a few seconds then nothing happens. No setup dialog or nothing. I open the
drive window and click on the setup.exe file, and the same thing happens;
nothing! I disabled my Norton AV auto-protect and closed my firewall
software, and still the same thing. If anyone has any ideas, feel free to
let me know. If it comes down to it, I can upgrade to VS 2003 (or wait for
'04, whenever that might be!) but I would prefer not to spend the extra $$$.
Have you confirmed that the CD (or DVD, or whatever) drive in this new
laptop operates correctly? Has it successfully autostarted and installed
software on other CD's?
What's the source of you Visual Studio CD's? Retail or MSDN download/burn? I
ask because if your drive is OK, it sounds like it could be a bad or damaged
CD.
AFAIK, the fact that you have the .NET Framework v1.1 installed should not
impact installation of Visual Studio .NET 2002, but you could try
uninstalling v1.1 and see if that helps as a last resort.
