Logical n-tier design - just how much integration is allowed?

Say I have a specific class in the Data layer that grabs data and sticks it
in a data structure.

Say I have a control in the UI layer that feeds from that data structure.

Is it against the rules for me to have a class that contains an instance of
both the data and UI objects for specific situations? And if I could,
would I put that new class in the Business Logic layer?

Is a logical n-tier design right for the job?

Cheers,
..pd.
