I have an Academic version 1.0 of VS.NET.
I was following instuctions on Deploying an application (page 440 of
Sam's VB.NET in 24 hours). Just testing and learning.
First thing I noticed is that my setup project's CLR ( dotnetfxredis)
was not defaulting to exclude = false (as the book said would), it was
set to true. And mscorlib.dll file was not under it in my setup
project like the books.
If I set dotnetfxredst to exclude = false and attempt to build I get :
dotNETFXRedist_x86_enu.msm must not be used to redistribute the .NET
Framework.
Please exclude this merge module
I know there are a ton of threads on the subject - and I think I've
read all of them. And I know there is MS site with steps on what do,
including
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en.
Frankly I'm very confused right now. Could somebody kindly explain (in
layman's terms) what I need to do?
Does my delivered .net v1.0 have everything I need? And why and where
do I need to install the localized redist or the bootstrap sample? I
do have the mscorlib.dll file on my system and the
dotnetfixredist*.msm did show up on my setup project.
When something like this affects so many people in the same way, and
the fix is so convuluted, It always makes me wonder why not at least
target the 99% with the simple automated fix.
Many Thanks for any help or information on this.
