.Net for Unix \ Linux

Hi

Looking for information on whether or not Microsoft intend to develop
a .Net for Unix \ Linux OS (thus opening a brand new OS for VB.Net
programmers). I know of the Mono project (but this is seemly a lot
slower that .Net on Windows).

I have never heard of any such intention from Microsoft. Why do you think
Microsoft would throw away good R&D money for free?

The shared source release (rotor) was ported to FreeBSD by Microsoft. That
must have taken some effort. They couldn't do windows forms (too difficult),
but they do provide a tcl/tk gui frontend (if I remember rightly).

Plus there's Qt#, GTK#, Wx.NET and probably a few others that can be used
for cross platform gui stuff with .NET.
