Visual Studio .net 2002 Academic - Install problem

Hi.
I have attempted to install Visual Studio .net 2002
Academic on my XP machine from the original CDs 3 times
to no avail. 1st time installed .net framework, IIS, etc..
2nd time & 3rd time, used the repair/install option.

Every time I complete my 1 hour long install, all looks
normal, then at the end of the process, I reboot (per
Forced MS VS.net install process) and
expect to see Visual Studio.net on my Start, Programs
list once I reboot, the only thing that is diplayed on my
XP program list is an old Visual Basic 6.0 Working Model
install... :(.

I checked my install log for VS.net and noticed the
following error message.... VS70pgui: Failed to increment
max steps for small progress. Logging as event

Any ideas of what I should
try next? I was thinking about doing an uninstall of
VS.net and trying again from scratch.
