Web services and events

Hi all,
I read that web services are a valid alternative to DCOM, but I need
something like events: a way my server can trigger a client side code being
executed. It's vital to do this for me. Polling for the server status change
is a huge bandwith waste.
Do you mind if you could help me?
Best Regards,
Andrea
