Hi, I am writing (for my own use) an application which will use a webservice
to access an SQL server database. The database holds information about
friends where I have repaired/installed/updated their pcs. But I have
questions (heh, I guess you knew that).
1st. Should I access the database from the webservice project, or should
I add create a class library which the webservice calls into? I have seen
other projects which do this to keep the actual webservice clean and clutter
free, and apparently it should lessen the load on the server?
2nd. Is it very simple to return DataSets from the class library through
the webservice and back to my WinForm app? I may also write other frontends
for my PDA and possibly Smartphones..
3rd. Security? Which is the easiest way to use security so that only
authorized users have access to the webservice?
I know that I could probably find most of this information on the net, but I
would rather get an overview of how people have done this kind of thing
themselves first, along with any hints, tips, and problems to avoid.
Thank you in advance for any information or pointers that you may be able to
give.
