MECalcSrv error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol _main referenced in function _mainCRTStartup

I'm new to the .NET world and trying to learn from the sample code in Visual
Studio 2003's C++ environment. When I try to compile their "MECalculator"
sample (which demonstrates communication between a .NET DLL and a C++
console app) I get a link error on the MECalcSrv DLL project:

"MECalcSrv error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol _main referenced in
function _mainCRTStartup"

A previous discussion in this group reported the same error on a project
someone was porting from VC++ 6, and a response suggested:

"Look through your project settings for the Linker and change the Subsystem
from Console to Windows (/subsystem:console for /subsystem:windows)."

I tried this (the setting had been "Not Set"), but the problem remains

Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?
