MFC class - Properties tab - Windows Messages

If I have a class (e.g. CBaseView) which is derived directly from CView then
the Properties pane will list all Windows messages and Command ID that I can
override. If I then derive from CBaseView e.g. CFinalView and look at the
Properties pane I don't have access to either Windows messages or Command
ID, and I can't see any way of telling the IDE to treat CFinalView like a
CView.

Am I missing something or is the VS2003 IDE just a backward step from VS
6.0?
