VC Build Automation Object Usage Questions

I'm converting our current VS6.0 build system to support VC in Net 2003. I've
sucessfully decoded the doc on using the DevDTE object, and can build a fully
specified solution. Unfortunately, I need to change some of the direcctory
paths, due to differences from the developer desktops. My needs used to be
met by the AddToolSetttings Method, the equivalent of which seems to be in
the VCProjectEngineLibrary object. My problem is that none of the
documentation states HOW to create this onject, nor how it or its properties
relate to any particular solution file, specifically the one opened by
DevDTE. Please note, I'm still working in VB6.0, and creating these objects
in code. So all the nice examples of VS.Net Add-In's using .Net namespaces
and handing you the objects are of no help. I'll take any explainations,
examples, or just pointers to the .Net documentation that shows how to change
the compiler, linker and resouce compiler paths for a solution to be built
via the DevDTE object.
Thanks in advance
