No kidding ? I'm just learning VC7 now.
Here's an example of how bad it is.
When I hit the home key I want it to go to the first column,
not to the first non-whitespace in the line.
The solution ?
I had to write a macro.
Now whenever I hit the home key for the first time
I go out for a cigar break until it's done loading.
What is it doing ?
It's obviously loading a huge thread or .DLL of some kind.
Just to move the cursor to the first column ? !
That's bullshit.
With VC6 I just used a drop-down list to build/run a project,
but with VC7 this has become a 7 step process,
as there is no " Debug ( Run ) Project " option.
Why is it that I can clean and build a selected project,
but I can't run it ? !
The " Active Solution Configuration "
should let me choose which Project gets launched.
And building a solution is too verbose,
telling me about all these projects that it skipped.
VC7 also continues in the VC6 tradition of
putting all of one's settings in the registry...
and then providing no simple why to back them up.
And to that VC7 added .XML files buried deep in directories,
just to make backing up my settings that much harder.
Also, I can't seem to step by statements instead of lines,
nor can I set breakpoints anywhere but column 1.
I can set it, but when it runs and when I edit the breakpoint
it reverts back to column 1.
