/HEAP option

Hi All

I've been struggling with memory fragmentation in my application. If I use 3rd-party tools (e.g., TopToBottomNT) to check my application's virtual address space I see a lot of small chunks of memory. The size of many of the chunks is 4K (1 page), and between each two of the 1-page chunks there are almost 50 pages unused! Then I am trying to get a large default heap during application start-up and I have thought of the "/HEAP:reserve[,commit]" linker option. I am trying various sizes with this option, from 1MB to 200MB, it doesn't seem to make any difference -- for example, if I use 200MB as "reserve", I'm expecting the system will reserve a 200-MB memory space for me at the beginning, but when I look at the virtual memory layout I do not see any memory chunk that is 200MB big. Am I using this linker option for the wrong purpose? Any comments will be appreciated
