Using wizard to add member variables in projects ported from VC6

I have recently bought a copy of Visual C++ .NET 2003.
Everything works very well if I create a new project in
Visual C++ .NET and start working. My problem is that in
older projects that were created in Visual C++ 6 I cannot
use the tools in Visual C++ .NET to add new classes, new
variables, or event handlers and so on. For example, if I
right-click on a control in a dialog box and choose "Add
variable..." then Visual Studio simply hangs up.

As a work-around I am using the good old class wizard in
Visual C++ 6 to add variables, and then using Visual
C++ .NET to fill in the code. This is tiresome! Can anyone
offer any help?
