Unable to connect to the remote server

Hi All,

I am new to web service client development. Grateful, if anybody can help me
to solve this issue. Or let me know where/what I have done wrong.

We are to consume a webservice (from a different company). It requires
digital certification, SSL enabling and cookies acceptance. The web service
is also not on the default port.

When trying to obtain the stub class for the service, I could not get the
same using the dialog "Add Web Reference". Thus, I downloaded the copy of the
WSDL file, and used the same to add the web reference. I have then changed
the url reference in the web reference back to the actual server address
(which is https).

Using the above I have written the client in Visual Studio.NET IDE, calling
a "Hello()" function to test the connectivity to the web service. It is a
console based application.

I get the following exception with the error reported:
"System.Net.WebException: The underlying connection was closed: Unable to
connect to the remote server
at System.Net.HeepWebRequest.CheckFinalStatus()
at System.Net.HeepWebRequest.EndGetRequestStream(
........."

I have tried the various options listed in the various help forums like -
1. Keeping the connection alive by setting KeepAlive option.
2. Setting the HttpVersion.

But either of these do not help. The error continues.

We are not sitting behind a proxy. Grateful, if anybody can help us in this.

Thanks and Regards.
