Which is better - internal or external schema?

I'm trying to save data from an ADO.NET Dataset to an XML file. The Dataset
is made up of 2 tables with a foreign key and a relationship. I don't
expect more than a few hundred rows.

I'm in the design phase and trying to determine if I should use an external
schema or an internal schema. I was hoping someone could help me understand
the pros and cons or each option. Thanks in advance.
