Reading an XML 'Field'

I am trying to wean myself off ini files and have managed to
produce the following by modifying the MS XMLReading sample:

<Map_Table xmlns="map.xsd">
<locations>
<name>JDATADIR</name>
<location>"E:\Data\DataBase"</location>
</locations>
<locations>
<name>JINFODIR</name>
<location>"E:\Data\JHelp"</location>
</locations>
</Map_Table>

It is just a mapping of where I keep things so that programs can
find them, if the locations change I can just update the map
file.

What I want to do is just read the value of a location, say
JINFODIR, and return the associated path. I can read the whole
file into a dataset and display it but really I would like to
return just the required field.

I guess the first question is 'is this a legitimates use of an
XML file?'

If so can I have some pointers please - I tried a Google search
which returned 1.3 million hits but I am too old to have time to
work my way through all of them. I am very new to XML, i.e.
level 3 ignorance - I don't know *what* I don't know (but I know
it's a lot) so even clues to help me refine my search would be
appreciated :-))

Many thanks.
