start a process in server site

Hi,
I have a question as stated above.
I have a script in my DB server which will help me to do alot of job
when I execute it. It might take a long time to process.
In client site, I will have a VB.NET client. I want my Vb Client execute
the script from my client site and the script start run in my DB Server. My
client will be able to exit anytime wihout knowing the process is success or
not.
How can I do it?
I have found that WMI might help, is that any other way?
Thanks for the advice.

Regards
hmlim
