VB.NET com talking to modems

Hi,

This may sound like a strange question, but is there any special access
set-up or security controls around COM ports or Modems?

I am trying to create a routine that sends SMS and pagers via a modem.
Fairly simple to achieve, it just a question of getting the modem to dial out
to a number, a pause, then the message (translated to tones).

I have created the routine, and it work perfectlly on a XP Pro laptop with a
modem. But when I try it on the server, as soon as my app trys to open the
comm port, I get an error of port inaccessable.

However, I can test the modem through the Modem Diagnostics button under the
Control Panel > Modem option.

Somebody has said that there are special 'virtual com port' classes
available that will allow this to work, as the MS server apps now block
direct access to the the Com ports.

Currently, my VB.NET app uses the old VB6 COM resource.
