Creating a Dataview that doesnt move

I have a problem.

I am using a dataview to filter records where the criteria contains
fields that I need to change.

"Priority > a and Priorty < b"

I need to loop through these values incrementing the priority by one.
The problem is, each time I do this the filter "refreshes" itself so
that the rows I've changed disappear throwing my for-each or for-next
loops off.

Is there a way I could keep the list from re-filtering itself until I'm
finished with the entire set of data?
