Combobox slider position

Is it possible to determine the position of the dropdown combobox slider.
I'm trying to build a combobox that loads only the items currently shown in
the dropdown list. When a user moves the dropdown slider, I need to know
where it is in relation to the total number of items in the datasource.
I'm using C# in VSNet.2003
