Newsgroup Protocol / Challenge to MS Research

There are so many Microsoft newsgroups dedicted to .NET, I am torn between

1) Just posting to .general
2) cc: ing a lot of more specific newsgroups
3) Just posting to the specific newsgroups
If I do (1) I feel I sometimes miss out on expertise -- on the other
hand, it seems like some quite smart people read .general.

If I do (2) people flame me for x-posting

If I do (3) I get much fewer responses or it takes a longer time to get
a response.
I guess what I'm asking is since Microsoft has all this supposed talent
and research smarts, can't they solve this as some type of information
organization topic?

Usually, depending on my question, I will start at the most specific
level. if it does not get answered then I start working my way up the
tree tothe more general.

Usually what happens, at least with my experience, is that most people
will subscribe to the broadest topic, then from there proceede to
narrow down their interests to the more specific topics.

As for me-
microsoft.public.dotnet.general
microsoft.public.dotnet.languages.csharp
