WDS Windows Desktop Search API in Windows Service

I tried integrating the SDKSampleApp into a Windows Service (called by
Remoting from a WinForms GUI) but keep receiving the following error message:

System.InvalidCastException: QueryInterface for interface
Microsoft.Windows.DesktopSearch.Query.ISearchDeskt op failed.

Web searches yield plenty of discussion re ASP.NET / AspCompat = true /
<identity impersonate="true"/> but nothing obviously relevant to Windows
Service integration.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

B.
