Too many fields defined when importing from Excel

Hi,
I need to programmatically import the contents of an Excel spreadsheet into
a datagrid - it has 52 columns and 37 rows. I do not have any control over
the content of the spreadsheet so I can't get rid of any of the columns.
I am populating a dataset. The code runs OK but comes back with an error
'Too many fields defined'.
I thought I could have up to 255 columns. Is there any way to import 10
columns at a time say and then join them all up together before displaying on
screen?
My environment is C# and ASP.Net V1.1 (VS.Net 2003)
Any help gratefully received.
