Versioning & Multiple Icons for Deployment

mts
First, let me say that I hope I have selected the correct discussion group
for these questions.

I would like to display the version (major.minor.build) of my project in the
final build. I can do it, I can see it, but what I would like to understand
better is just when do the individual parts increment.

My concern is that I created my last beta version, loaded it with the setup
project I created and on those BETA machines, the Build number is what I
could see during DEBUG mode, but now I go into DEBUG mode and the build
number is different. I would also like to be able to increment the major and
minor.

My second question concerns installing multiple ICONS on the user desktop.
Again, I can do this, and have successfully. But, what I am wondering is if
there is a way to make any/all of the icons optional? Is this a setting or
do I need to write additional code within the setup program (possible?) that
does this.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide.
