benchmarks and speed tests for internet explorer control in vb.net as com interop

I am totally floored to find out that ms didn't upgrade the web browser

control. Isn't that the whole selling point of .Net? that it's more
geared to Internet programming?
Anyway has anyone done any benchmarks?
I'm guessing if you want to write an app in .Net that uses this control

it's going to run slower than it did in vb6 due to having to use COM
Interop.
One article I read said it can be up to 150% . . . . slower?!?
I'm hoping that's just in the worst case scenario and not necessarily
related to the IE control but rather just in some other type of COM
Interop scenario of reusing vb6 code.
Any feedback is appreciated - thanks.
