send mail issue

I have a service that executes a SP in sql server. This SP takes a long time
to run. I now want the SP to send an email with an excel attachment of all
files changed to multiple user. Should I have SQL server take care of this (I
am not shure if and how to send excel attachment from sqlserver) or should I
have a separate service that retrieves the data (after the SP finishes) in a
dataset and then convert that to excel and then send to multiple users?
