Application Console and Memory

I have a console application (in VB.net) who collects informations to record
them in a file. If I reduce the application, it uses much less memory (300 Mo
--> 8 Mo)
Then it continues to consume memory. If I start again to reduce the
application I obtain a fall of the memory again.

Would somebody have it an explanation?
