I need to be able to ensure that all of my users' computers (even those who
are only potential users) are fully installed with the Visual Studio
Components for VS2002, such as MDAC etc.
At the present moment, when I develop a new solution, I also develop a
deployment project, the output from which gets placed onto the server in a
location that's visible to all users. When the user logs in, the logon
script executes a batch file which runs the solution deployment, thus
ensuring that everybody has the latest version of each application when they
log in. I'm wondering if it's possible to pull a similar stunt to ensure
that the components are getting installed. Ideally, the component
installation would be set to run in silent mode, rather than scaring the
user by asking them questions. It would only be a small minority of users
that would not already have the components, but it would be preferable to
having to sweep each machine to find out whether or not the components are
installed.
I'd be interested to know if this is possible.
