Defines in a makefile

Hi. I've just upgraded from .Net 2002 to .Net 2003. We use makefiles to
compile our project. In the makefile, we have some #defines, which are
defined using the following syntax:

company_name = "Our Company Name"

cc_args += /DCOMPANY_NAME="""$(company_name)"""

Then cc_args is passed into cl.exe.

This worked fine for previous versions of Visual Studio, but I'm getting
errors in code since upgrading, saying:

error C2065: 'Our' : undeclared identifier

Any ideas what has changed since 2002?

Thanks for any help with this,
Yiannis.
