Can't install VB.Net on XP-Home SP2

Got past Step 1 Prerequisites but can't get Step 2 to run. Every time a
window pops up that says I'm trying to install Windows98 and I should reboot
to DOS to do that. Why would something think the VB.Net CD is Windows98?

I got a copy of Spy++ and the Process that calls up the W98 window is AHUI.
I'm not a Windows programmer but why would AHUI.EXE be involved with this
installation? I run Norton AntiVirus and keep it updated all the time. No
virus has been detected but could this be a really sneaky one?

Tried Expanding and new copy of AHUI.EXE into System32 to replace in case it
was bad with no difference. Tried Renaming AHUI something else but it
replaced itself and no difference. Should this file replace itself or is that
an indication of a sneaky virus?

I've tried installing with firewall and Norton OFF with no difference, tried
installing after shutting down all Processes except Windows processes with no
difference.

System is: P4-3.0GHz, 1GB RAM, tons of disk space (4 drives), XP-Home SP2,
loads of installed programs incl Office XP. Virus scan by Norton, firewall:
hardware Router plus XP's firewall.

thanks for the help

Other information I left out by mistake:
Version trying to install is VB.Net 2003 Standard. No other version of VS or
earlier versions of VB or anything like it are on the machine (first
programming language for my son). NET Framework apparently installed OK
(shows up in the list OK) during Step 1.

thanks again for your help!
