question about installing Visual Studio Everett 2002

It fails to install, saying there is an existing J# found, so uninstall it
then try again. Then it says an existing .net framework 1.1 was found,
uninstall that.

okay, then try again, CD1, then install prerequisites CD, after 20 minutes
its done, install disk 1 again, it says an existing J# found, uninstall it
then try again, .net 1.1 found, ...

Ive done this 5 times now, even uninstalling the .net 2.0beta, uninstalling
my C# express beta, same thing.

I found in the readme.html that to force the install, goto run, and type
setup\setup.exe /NO_BSLN_CHECK

which now started to work, its slowly filling up the progress bar on CD1, so
I leave it to cook for almost an hour; come back and its stuck doing
something, the last word in the long sentence was "makefile" (the sentence
saying what its doing at the moment that sometimes changes really fast)

So maybe it wants disk 2 but doesnt know how to ask. I hit the CD eject,
then it says no, put CD1 back in right now. okay. Then it pops up with the
same message, an existing J# found, uninstall it, etc...so I just click OK

but it never changes. I let it sit another 20 minutes, came back and its in
the same place.

Its running XP sp2, all newly Windows-updated, relatively clean new install,
500Mhz Pentium, fresh disk. It just does not want to go in there. I had to
install it a couple of times because back then, my system crashed, it always
went smooth. But something is preventing it from loading, like forcing a
square peg into a round hole.

Its got older Trend Micro AV software, but its disabled/expired, the XP
reports its disabled.

Any suggestions??
