Data Containing Interational Chars

I have an XML file that contains international characters (for ex: GB pound
symbol) in the text. When I update the a table in SQL server (SP using
OPENXML), the characters don't get traansfered. For ex: instead of GB pound
symbol, its stored as b#. I am passing in the XML string as a NVarChar and
even the data column I am updating is of NVarChar type. Any tips are greatly
appreciated. TIA.
