Error Message when creating a new project

WW
I am a .NET novice so please bear with me!!
I am trying to create my first .NET application and I'm doing the following
.....

File -> New -> WindowsApplication .... and I get a message

"Strong name validation failed for assembly 'Microsoft.VisualStudio' "

I get the same message if I create a new WebApplication and choose Add
Component

Any thoughts? I cannot get past this message
