Design to mitigate Exception constraint

I need to create a web service that accepts exception info & publishes it to
SQL. I thought such a service would accept an input parameter of type
"System.Exception", but that won't work, because Exception can't be
serialized and therefore can't be used as a web service parameter.

So I'm thinking we'd define some type that "looks just like" the Exception
type, but that can be serialized. Say we have a type of
"ExceptionInformation" whose properties match System.Exception.

But is there a better design than that? I'm thinking there is a pattern
somewhere that I'm not considering... Thanks for any input. --Marty
